1965 – Presidents Trophy

Presidents TrophyThe Presidents Trophy is a year-long competition where players are awarded points based on where they finish at the regular club games. At the end of the year, the player with the highest number of points is deemed the winner of the trophy.

In the early days of the President’s trophy, members were awarded 4 points for attendance. An additional 10 points was awarded for first place and then down to 1 point for tenth for place.

In 2009 the point system was revised where 5 points awarded to last place and then an increase by 1 point for every position going upwards all the way to 1st place. As a result, all cards are now sorted in strict count back order.

Records do not show who or why inaugurated the Presidents trophy. It can be safely assumed though the club president at the time most likely had some involvement in the trophy’s beginning.

The winner of the Presidents Trophy receives the all-important automatic selection to the NSW team for the following years R S Elliott Tournament.
