1965 – R S Elliott Interstate Tournament

Inspired by Ron Elliott, (Life Member 1965) then Chief Manager for Queensland and initiated by an exchange of correspondence between Dudley Marsh (President of Brisbane Golf Club) and Leo Morrison (Life Member 1967) (President of Sydney Golf Club).

The first tournament was held at Sydney’s Bonnie Doon Golf Course on 23rd August 1965. Although all states compete today, the first event was conducted by teams of ten players each from Brisbane and Sydney.

The main trophies contested over the two days are:

R S Elliott Trophy – Best five scratch scores.
Canberra Cup (now Gateway Bank Cup) – Best individual Stableford score.

Brisbane Salver – Best seven handicap stableford scores.

Melbourne Club Trophy – Best individual stroke score.

Mick Costello Trophy (now Managing Directors Trophy) – Best team average stableford score (Monday)

During 2001, it was decided to implement “Elliott Blues” – Certificates were issued to all players who have participated in the R S Elliott Tournament. To date 137 Elliott Blues have been presented.

Terry Groves was awarded “Elliott Blue” No. 1
