CBA Sydney Golf Club

The annual Sydney vs Brisbane event was inaugurated in 1977 by Mick Costello – President of the Brisbane Club.

Mr Clive Thompson Chief Manager Queensland donated the trophy for this event. The first game was held at Royal Queensland in 1977 with the Sydney club becoming the first winners of the trophy. The event has since been played every year except in 1980 and 1984. I understand this event was suggested for players who missed selection in the Interstate event.

In 1986 it was suggested by member Paul Cutmore, that instead of alternating the event between Brisbane and Sydney, future events to be held in Coffs Harbour NSW (approx half way between the two cities). This was adopted and all games since 1986 have been played in Coffs Harbour (Bonville Golf Resort & Coffs Harbour Golf Club).

In 1998 in recognition of sponsorship from the QLD and NSW State General Managers, the trophy was renamed “General Managers Trophy”
