Alex Roberts (1992 – RS Elliott Hobart TAS)

In 1991 an informal meeting was held between Stephen McCammond (Life Member 2013), Alex Roberts (Life Member 1993) and Stan Conner. The outcome was that the club commence a Match Play tournament to be conducted in conjunction with normal club games. Alex Roberts was the first winner and in subsequent years 31 players went through after qualifying.

Each year, the final is held at Long Reef Golf Club where the winner is an automatic qualifier for the next year’s event. In 2016 the field was reduced to 16 qualifiers.

Alex Roberts passed away in 2009, and in his memory, the Committee decided to rename the Match Play Trophy the “Alex Roberts Memorial Match Play Trophy”
