Sir Ronald Elliott
The RS Elliott is an annual golf tournament that is named after CBA’s Chief Manager of Queensland, Ronald Elliott. Ronald Elliott was an avid supporter of golf and as a result, a national CBA golf tournament between each state CBA Golf Club (except NT) was born. The inaugural RS Elliott tournament took place in 1965 at Sydney’s Bonnie Doon Golf Club.
Ronald Elliott went on to be the CBA Managing Director from 1976 to 1981 where he eventually retired on 14th August 1981 after six years as managing director. A significant highlight of Ronald Elliott’s life was on Friday 20th March, 1981 when he was officially knighted by the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia. To this date, he has been honourably referred to as “Sir Ronald Elliott”.
During the month of March each year, the RS Elliott tournament takes place over two days of golf where each state team will compete for a number of team and individual trophies. On day one of the tournament, teams will play for the Managing Director’s Trophy and on day two, teams will play for the RS Elliott trophy and the Brisbane Salver. Also on day two, players will compete for the individual trophies – Melbourne Cup and the Gateway Bank Cup.
